An Introduction to Baccarat |
If you visit a major live casino, such as you might find in London or
Las Vegas, you may well see a special area which is guarded by extra
security staff and the people playing inside seem to be a particularly
well-heeled group of casino goers. If you try to enter, then unless you
are known to be of millionaire status, then there is no chance you will
be allowed anywhere near, for the game is Baccarat and substantial sums
of money are in play you can now also play baccarat online.
Baccarat is certainly a game which is enjoyed by the high rollers, and
it is not unusual to see huge bets, possibly many thousands of pounds,
being staked on single games. The security staff is there to protect
both the players and the huge stacks of money that are in play.
However, if you are not fortunate enough to be one of these high
rollers, then it is still possible to enjoy the game without it costing
you very much money at all. Many live casinos also have relatively low
Baccarat games, and if you play online then you can chose the level at
which you play, from maybe just a pound or so right up to several
thousands.
Although Baccarat might look complex to someone not well acquainted
with the game, it is a game that is ruled entirely by the laws of
chance. There is absolutely no skill involved at all, and the only
decision a player needs to make is to bet on either the player or the
bank. You can also bet on a tie.
Although the game is simple, the rules are quite complex. The objective
is to make a hand with nine points or as close to nine as possible.
Points are calculated by taking the final digit of the number obtained
by summing the values of the individual cards. After two cards have
been dealt, a third card may or may not be dealt depending on the
individual and relative values of the two hands.
Generally six decks are used and are shuffled frequently, often after
each hand. Bets places on the player and the bank are paid out at even
money though the casino rakes 5% of the wins on the bank. Ties are paid
out at 8 to 1. The best chance of winning is with bets placed on the
bank.
